On September 20, 2025, Carbon Nature and Gadjah Mada University (UGM) successfully carried out a Tree Planting & Eco-Education activity in the Special Purpose Forest Area (KHDTK) owned by UGM, located in Blora, Central Java. This activity is part of ongoing efforts to support environmental conservation, climate change mitigation, and raise public awareness of the importance of preserving forests and ecosystems.

The Importance of Tree Planting and Environmental Education
Tree planting is one effective solution to address various environmental problems such as deforestation, climate change, and declining air quality. Trees play an important role in absorbing carbon dioxide (CO2), producing oxygen, maintaining ecosystem balance, and protecting biodiversity. However, tree planting alone is not enough without comprehensive environmental education so that the community understands the importance of protecting and caring for trees and forests.
Environmental education aims to increase public awareness and knowledge about environmental issues so that they can play an active role in nature conservation. Through education, the community is expected to adopt an environmentally friendly lifestyle and support conservation programs.
Strategic Location: UGM Special Purpose Forest Area (KHDTK) in Blora
The UGM Forest Research and Education Park in Blora is a forest area that is specifically managed for research, education, and conservation purposes. This area has high biodiversity and plays an important role in maintaining the balance of the ecosystem in the Central Java region. With its well-preserved natural conditions, the Forest Research and Education Park is an ideal location for tree planting and environmental education activities.
The selection of this location also supports the long-term goal of strengthening the forest’s function as a carbon sink and habitat for various flora and fauna. Tree planting at KHDTK UGM is expected to improve soil quality, increase forest cover, and maintain the sustainability of the local ecosystem.
Collaboration between Carbon Nature and Gadjah Mada University
Carbon Nature is partnering with Gadjah Mada University, which has a strong reputation in the field of environmental education and research. This collaboration combines resources, knowledge, and enthusiasm to create a sustainable positive impact.
On September 20, 2025, participants consisting of students, lecturers, UGM staff, and volunteers from Carbon Nature worked together to plant various types of local trees suitable for the KHDTK ecosystem. In addition to planting activities, environmental education sessions were also provided by experts from UGM who discussed the importance of forest conservation, the benefits of trees, and climate change mitigation strategies.

Tree Planting Process and Environmental Education
The activity began with a brief briefing on the purpose and benefits of tree planting. Participants were then divided into groups to plant tree seedlings in designated areas. The seedlings planted were local species that were resistant to local environmental conditions and had high ecological value.
After the planting, an environmental education session took place with interactive and informative material. Participants were invited to discuss the role of forests in absorbing carbon, maintaining the water cycle, and protecting biodiversity. This education also emphasized the importance of the active role of the community in preserving forests and the surrounding environment.
Positive Impact and Future Expectations
This tree planting and environmental education activity has a significant positive impact, both ecologically and socially. Ecologically, tree planting helps increase forest cover, improve air quality, and reduce carbon emissions that contribute to climate change. Socially, environmental education raises public awareness and knowledge so that people are more caring and responsible towards the environment.
Carbon Nature and Gadjah Mada University hope that this activity can serve as an example and inspiration for other institutions, communities, and the wider public to participate in environmental conservation efforts. Through continuous collaboration, it is hoped that Indonesia can achieve its carbon emission reduction targets and preserve its natural wealth for future generations.
Conclusion
The tree planting and environmental education activities carried out by Carbon Nature together with Gadjah Mada University on September 20, 2025, at KHDTK Blora are concrete steps in preserving forests and the environment. This initiative not only involves planting tree seedlings but also fostering awareness and knowledge about the importance of protecting our planet. Through strong collaboration and shared commitment, we can create a greener, healthier, and more sustainable environment.
